Accomplishments
APAS started in 1962 as a small group of citizens concerned with animal welfare in Socorro. In the time since then,
-
thousands of dogs and cats have been spayed or neutered
-
animal ordinances were written and revised
-
Socorro Animal Shelter was built and equipment purchased
-
paid Animal Control and Animal Shelter personnel are in place
-
citizen awareness of the need for control and animal care has been raised
-
efforts have been made to educate local children with humane education classes through Animal Protection of New Mexico
-
APAS members have assisted in the transport of hundreds of homeless pets from the Socorro shelter to rescue organizations in our region
-
APAS efforts to raise awareness of our goals includes pancakes for puppies, donating food to the local Storehouse, Informational tables at various events around the city of Socorro.
